Spell City

Spell City is a really cool application that I would use or will use if I ever move back down to the elementary level.  The reason for this being that many of the science vocabulary that my 6th graders use is not recognized in the program.  For example, it recognizes Earth or Volcano, but not plate tectonics etc.  Still I really like this web site and recommend its use for students in general to help them with their spelling or literature.  If I taught English Language Arts, this would be perfect to use right now.

    That's a good critique, I'm glad to know that. I used it with my 7th grade Language Arts kids, and they did love it. It's another way to get them to study!

    Thanks for informing us about the short comings of Spell City. I also teach Earth Science and would be interested in a site that would help students study complex vocabulary words. Please let me know if you find one.

    After I read your blog, I went and played with Spell City. I can totally see my students using it, especially my intervention students.
